Associate Pastor

Reports to: Lead Pastor, FLSA Classification: Non-exempt

Summary of Position

The Associate Pastor runs student ministries and provides support for the Lead Pastor and Elders contributing to the successful operation of Zoar Church. His primary responsibilities include Youth Pastor duties, and other pastoral duties.

Spiritual Qualifications

To be a born-again believer walking in fellowship with the Lord.

  • To be growing in the character traits as spelled out in 1 Timothy 3:1-7.
  • To have some pastoral or ministry experience.
  • To be open to the Holy Spirit's direction in his life and to sense God's call to ministry.
  • To be willing to grow in ministerial responsibilities.
  • To have the ability to relate to the needs of young people, to teach and motivate the youth towards      a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.
  • To be in sympathy with the Mennonite Brethren Confession of Faith.

Primary Responsibilities

Youth Ministry Duties 50%

  • Provide oversight of youth programs for middle and high school individuals.
  • Create interesting and spiritual lessons to instill Biblical principles for the youth.
  • Provide an impactful youth ministry budget to Elders and Stewardship Council.
  • Be available to assist and counsel youth and parents facing problems, decisions, or crises.
  • Plan and implement youth mission trips.
  • Develop and oversee youth ministry sponsors/volunteers.

 Other Pastoral Duties 50%

  • Support the Lead Pastor and Elders within the church.
  • Prepare sermons and preach periodically during the year.
  • Become familiar and follow the tenets of Zoar Church (see links at the bottom of the page).
  • Visit congregation members periodically during the year.
  • Provide biblical counsel when needed.
  • Serve on Elder board.

The Lead Pastor and Elder group reserve the right to change job assignments, and the tasks associated with any job assignment, at any time. The Associate Pastor is also encouraged to seek the Lord and utilize their particular talents in the church in ways that might not be mentioned in this job description.

Attendance 

The weekly schedule will include usual daytime work hours, some evenings, and regular weekend involvement. One designated weekday off with openness to adjustments and flexibility by arrangement. A regular staff meeting will be held weekly.

Expectations of Spouse

The Associate Pastor's spouse (if married) is expected to support his ministry.

Salary

Salary Package will be discussed during the interview process. Zoar MB Church offers a competitive package including salary, housing allowance (if eligible), HRA (Health Reimbursement Arrangement), ministry expenses and paid vacation. 

ADA Compliance

Physical Ability:Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (5-10 pounds). Tasks involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation. 

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Essential functions are regularly performed without exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
